A bit behind with my blog as last week I was baking a special cake, which will be revealed in my next post! Today I’m sharing my thoughts about last weekend when I went to visit my younger niece, Emily. She is the one I am doing the fitness challenge with, and it was great to spend some quality time with her. I feel very lucky to have two amazing nieces, and that I’m able to enjoy doing different things with them both.
After a relaxing evening on Friday we set off on Saturday morning to do a 10km walk in Salcey Forest. We hadn’t quite anticipated that due to the rain the ground would be extremely boggy and we squelched along, boots almost getting pulled off by the suction of the combination of water and mud! I’m certainly breaking in my new boots and finding out that perhaps they are not as waterproof as Regatta claims…
Later on we had a nice meal and drinks to reward ourselves and finally got a decent picture of the two of us 🥰 While there is a fairly substantial age gap between Emily and I we are very similar and we’ve always been able to chat about anything, which I really appreciate. She bought me a little plaque a few years ago that says: “An Auntie is a little bit parent, a little bit sister and a little bit best friend” and I think that succinctly sums up our relationship.
I realise that not everyone is fortunate enough to be close to family, and know of friends who have fallen out with family members and not spoken for a long time. The last few years have taught me that life is short and we need to take every opportunity to make memories and enjoy being with the people we love. It’s very hard to make the first step to reconciliation but if there is someone out there that you want to reconnect with, it’s never too late to try.
Thanks Emily for a lovely weekend!

Two bonny ladies! cx
