Daily thoughts… Day 24 of 366

After a random conversation in an online meeting at work about Lego during COVID, I mentioned that I had a Lego ‘street’ and took a quick snap and uploaded it as my background on Teams to show the group. Since then it’s become a talking point at practically every meeting I have, and really breaks the ice when meeting new people as everyone seems to have a Lego story!

The street is made up of seven interconnecting modular buildings, which are part of the Lego Creator Expert series. There are nineteen buildings and counting, and to get hold of the very first one (Cafe Corner) these days it will cost you over £2,000! It was actually my brother who got the first one – the Fire Station back in 2009 or 2010. We were fascinated by the little mini-builds inside the buildings, upstairs it had a little kitchenette, a games area and an ingenious fireman’s pole from the first floor to the ground!

It became a tradition for the two of us to build a level together, sometimes with the nieces when they were little, on a Sunday afternoon when I was visiting. As a result the buildings often took weeks or even months to complete, but it wasn’t really about the finished product it was more about the building process and spending time together doing something we enjoyed.

As well as buildings we also like the quirky sets and today’s image is the two of us, having just made the Fiat 500 alongside the Mini we built a few years previously. I’m glad that Lego are now producing products with more sustainable materials – long may our Lego-making days continue!
