A weekend meeting up with friends, a walk along part of the Saxon Shore Way (today’s image) and catching up on TV. My top two January TV picks are:
- The Tourist (BBC 1), second series
If you watched the first series, this one is even better! In the first series, a man wakes up in the Australian outback with amnesia and sets about trying to find out who he is, with some devastating revelations. In this series he travels to Ireland with a woman (originally a policewoman, now his girlfriend) who helped him in Series 1, following a letter he received from someone claiming to know him. He finds himself in the middle of a deadly family feud, with various plot twists that will keep you on the edge of your seat right to its conclusion. - Truelove (Channel 4)
The drama focuses on a group of people in their 70’s who have been friends since childhood. It shows how hidden secrets have a way of coming to light and explores the complexity of marriage, relationships and friendship, centered around a pact to assist each other to have a dignified death rather than “suffer a dreadful decline”, if it was that person’s wish. The acting is excellent and the screenplay expertly written, with each episode building tension that made it very watchable. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect at the beginning, but I soon got caught up in the unfolding of the story and it provoked much thought.
Have you watched any of these, and how did you find them?
