Daily thoughts… Day 8 of 366

In a previous post I mentioned that last year I prioritised work, and it was to the extent that I would regularly miss lunch to get something done and often work late. We all do this from time to time as most of us are conscientious, and go the extra mile when there is a deadline – which is fine.

However my late working and frequently missed lunches were not at the behest of my job/employer/manager, they were because I was lacking in discipline at managing my work/life balance. It was far easier to sit at my desk until 9pm, then grab a microwave meal, watch TV and go to bed, than stop when I am supposed to and cook a proper meal, or go for a walk or the gym, or meet with friends.

One of my colleagues messaged me today and told me that she was attending to her work/life balance, taking it one day at a time, and I guess this is what I am trying to do this year in planning exciting things for my spare time. Taking a leaf out of her book I stopped work promptly, heated up yesterday’s leftovers (sausage casserole I cooked yesterday – additional brownie point) and managed to get to my monthly Mahjong game on time (I’m usually late, because I finish work late …).

Today’s image is my hands from three of the games – two of which I won, and the other I was waiting for one tile to win. If you’re interested: the top one is a winning Purity hand with no chows; the middle is a winning Purity hand; and the bottom is a Dragonfly (I was waiting for a Green Dragon to win). We were trumped on the last hand by one of the ladies who managed a Unique Wonder (all honours hand) and was awarded a well-deserved 2,000 points to win the evening overall!
